  • Talk: Pillars of Health: An Introduction to Wellness Medicine

Biohacking, Anti-Aging, Longevity Medicine are all terms used to describe a growing field of healthcare centered around increasing a person's health span. An emerging focus has developed over the last few years on patient-focused wellness medicine that uses the latest technology and research to increase how long people are living in a healthy manner. This lecture will introduce the concept of the "pillars of health" and show how lifestyle changes combined with education can severely impact not just how long you live, but how healthy you are as you age. The goal is to die young at a very old age.

  • Talk: Gadgets, Gummies, & Ganja: Separating Biohacking Fact from Fiction

Increased public awareness of sleep as a pillar of health is a net positive. However, it's also opened the door to entire industries of biohacking, alternative treatments, pseudo-science, and in some cases bad information.

What do innovations with consumer wearables, the advent of sleep supplements, and the growing number of adults using cannabis as a sleep aid mean for your practice? What works and what is just snake oil? Erin Elliott, DDS will discuss the current literature on these topics and share real world experiences so you can help your patients separate fact from fiction.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Understand the current literature on popular sleep biohacking trends

    • Be equipped with key scripts to discuss these trends with patients

    • Recognize how these alternatives might impact oral appliance therapy

    Bio:
Dr. Erin Elliott grew up in Southern California, but crossed the country to attend a small NAIA school near Buffalo, New York (Go Bills) where she played collegiate soccer and graduated summa cum laude.

After graduating Creighton Dental School in the top 5 of her class, she settled in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. There she began her journey in dentistry at Post Falls Family Dental.

She loves to help people get great sleep but don't worry, she won't be putting you to sleep today!

  • Talk: Stress: Endocrine Disruption and Hormone Dysregulation

Stress is often thought to be rooted in psychological issues. Stress on the body comes in many forms and often can be the result of environmental toxins that disrupt metabolic and endocrine function, resulting in cortisol release and stress. This stress on the body can often go unrecognized, causing an increase in inflammation and hormone disruption. Chronic exposure to these types of toxins can ultimately result in disease and have an impact on aging. This lecture will identify common toxin exposures, what tests can diagnose exposure, and mitigation strategies to help your body detoxify from these exposures.
